Applicants eligible to apply for a Mellinger Scholarship must be an undergraduate student and live in one of the following counties: Warren, Henderson, Knox, Mercer, Fulton or McDonough. Apply online at: http://www.mellinger.org/index.php/application-tab    or see Miss Nelson for application!

 

Below is a list of the current scholarships that I am aware of and that are currently live. More will be available as the year progresses. Stop by my office if you have questions.  Remember, scholarships are free money- you should not have to pay to apply. Each little bit helps: Apply, Apply, Apply!

 

--Jack Brokaw Trade School Scholarship (Deadline: 3/10/2020) 

 Must be a resident of Henderson County for at least a year, and wish to pursue further education post high school at a trade school. These funds are intended to assist a person towards receiving a certification, diploma, associate’s degree, or other documented level of marketable skill in a trade or craft. *See Miss Nelson for application*



 

     --CSC Foundation Scholarships- (Deadline: 3/15/2020)

Any student planning to attend Carl Sandburg College should fill out the foundation scholarship. The Carl Sandburg College Scholarship Application for 2020-2021 opened on October 1, 2019 and will close on 3/15/2020
To apply, go online to www.sandburg.edu  and login using mySandburg. Go to Student Apps and click on the Scholarship Application button.

 

-- Sullivan Supply Scholarships (Deadline: 3/15/2020)

Each year, Sullivan Supply offers 20 scholarships of $1,000 each to youth displaying a great passion for the livestock show industry and/or livestock production.

Candidate must be a graduating high school senior or college student 21 years of age or younger; resident of the U.S. or Canada, and not a previous Sullivan Sullivan scholarship winner. An agriculture major or a career goal in livestock is not a requirement but a continued future involvement in the livestock industry is.  Application guidelines include the following: – List or describe your school, community, 4-H and/or FFA involvement. (There is no limit on this essay.) – Describe your involvement and experience in showing and/or raising livestock, along with your future goals and career plans in an essay (no more than two typed pages). – One letter of recommendation must accompany each application. (One only, please.) Applicants must return completed applications and a recent photo by March 15 of the application year by email or U.S. mail. 

The scholarship is funded solely through Sullivan Supply and Sullivan Supply South. The scholarship recipients will be selected by a committee of five industry leaders that will be kept confidential to promote objectivity. Members of the Sullivan family or Sullivan Supply employees or immediate family members will not serve on this committee nor will they be eligible to receive the scholarships. All scholarship recipients will be announced on The Pulse at www.SullivanSupply.com on May 1st.  Apply online: apply online starting January 1st https://www.sullivansupply.com/scholarships/ where they can also download and mail a paper application.

 

--Illinois Sheriffs’ Association (Deadline: 3/15/2020)

Student must be planning to attend school full-time in Illinois. Must be an Illinois resident. Student must fill out an application and attach an essay.

--Compeer Financial Deadline: (Deadline: 3/16/2020)

Compeer Financial believes in a strong future for agriculture and rural America. Compeer Financial’s High School Senior Scholarship Program awards $1,500 scholarships to students based on a combination of academic achievement, agricultural and community youth organization involvement and essay. Applicant requirements include:  Resident of our 144 county territory, Graduating High School Senior, Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale), Designated agricultural major, interest in an agriculture-related field, or have an agriculture or rural background, Special consideration will be given to students of parents who do business with Compeer Financial

--The Herbert L. Isaacson Scholarship Fund (Deadline: 3/20/2020) *new this year*

This fund will pay up to 80% of Trade School tuition and commits to the completion of the program. If you are a graduating senior at WCHS, have been a WCHS student for at least 1 year, and have plans to attend a trade school college program and/or a training school, please apply!

--Chad Gall Memorial Scholarship (Deadline: 3/29/2020)

Chad was raised in Henderson County and graduated from the former Union High School. He was involved in several clubs, played basketball, football, and baseball. Chad was unable to attend college therefore it is his wife and daughter’s hope to help assist a WCHS senior, or former graduate, reach their educational goals.

--PBA Lifetime Member Scholarship (Deadline: 3/31/2020)

Scholarships will be awarded to current PBA individual and student members to use towards continuing education or cosmetology school.

-- Western Illinois Regional Council- Community Action Agency (WIRC-CAA) Scholarship (Deadline: 3/31/2020)

The Western lllinois Regional Council-Community Action Agency (WIRGCAA), serving low income residents of Hancock, Henderson, Knox, McDonough and Warren counties, is offering $2,000 scholarships to assist lower income individuals continue their education in areas of study with high employability potential. All scholarships will be available on a region-wide basis to individuals in Hancock, Henderson, Knox, McDonough and Warren counties. An individual may not receive a WIRC-CAA scholarship more than two times.Successful scholarship recipients must meet all of the following eligibility criteria or the application will not be considered:

1. Resident of Hancock, Henderson, Knox, McDonough or Warren county; 2. Member of an income eligible household (at or below 125% of the 2019 poverty guidelines - refer to the attached guideline matrix on page 2); 3. Possess a high school diploma, GED, or must graduate by July 1, 2O20 from an accredited high school or GED administering institution; 4. Must be accepted into an Illinois college or university, community college, or occupational training program on at least a halftime basis 5. Demonstrate a commitment to civic and public affairs (see C. under Evaluation Process); and 6. Demonstrate goals and purpose commitment

--Oquawka Ambulance Scholarship (Deadline: 4/1/2020)

Will need to write an essay on “Why you wish to be in the healthcare field” or “If you would be interested to become a first responder or EMT in your community.”

--Oquawka Masonic Lodge Memorial Scholarship (Deadline: 4/1/2020)

Applicants must be able to reference their willingness to learn, character, and chosen career field. Applicants must also provide a GPA documentation and copy of acceptance to a post-secondary institution.

--Todd Hamilton Scholarship (Deadline: 4/1/2020)

Students must be graduating seniors and have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale & must show proof of acceptance from a 4 year post-secondary educational institution. Applicants must write a 1-2 page essay on “Why I chose to further my education.” Applicants will turn in 2 copies of their essay (one signed, one unsigned) each in a sealed envelope.

--The Leonard & Carolyn Anderson Academic Memorial Scholarship (Deadline: 4/1/2020)

This scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Leonard and Carolyn Anderson, residents of Oquawka. Both Leonard and Carolyn were active and dedicated to helping in their surrounding communities. Applicants must: have a strong commitment to helping others in their community and have a GPA of 3.4 or higher. Special consideration will be given to applicants who major in education and computer science/technology.

--Megan Shutwell Memorial Scholarship (Deadline: 4/1/2020)

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry shutwell, and family, established this scholarship, in memory of their daughter, and sister- Megan Shutwell. The student must be a graduating senior girl of West Central High School. The student must show acceptance and attendance from a 2 year or 4 year college. Student must have participated in at least one sport, for 4 years, and have a GPA of 3.0 or above.

--The Joe Torrance Memorial Scholarship (Deadline: 4/1/2020)

This scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Mr. Joe Torrance who was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. Applicants must: demonstrate commitment to helping others, have a strong work ethic, demonstrate passion for Agriculture or chose trade, have a GPA of C or better. Recipient must provide proof of acceptance to the college/trade school.

--The Sharri Richard Memorial Scholarship (Deadline: 4/1/2020)

This scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Mrs. Sharri Richard who worked for the Southern and West Central School Districts. Sharri was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother as well as an outstanding employee. Applicants must: demonstrate commitment to helping others, participate in extracurricular events and activities, demonstrate academic excellence, provide proof of acceptance to post-secondary institution.

--The Brian Hetrick Memorial Scholarship (Deadline: 4/1/2020)

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hetrick and family established this scholarship in memory of their son. $350 will be awarded to one WCHS senior planning to further their education in college.

--The Vail Cordell Scholarship (Deadline: 4/2020)

This scholarship was established by Mr. Bruner as a way to “pay back” for opportunities that he had received while a student in school. Applicants must be: a graduate of West Central High School, planning to continue their education at a 2 or 4 year institution of higher learning, and write an essay based on “Who they admire most.”--Pending--

--The Jon Guyton Memorial Scouting Scholarship (Deadline: 4/1/2020) 

This scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Jon Guyton who was committed to scouting and serving his community. Applicants must write a brief essay on “How Scouting has Influenced my Life.” *See Miss Nelson to apply* 

 

--Alta Mae Brokaw Scholarship (Deadline: 4/1/2020)

Available to students attending a 2 or 4 year college or university, with preferential treatment being given to those who have financial need, and have shown academic success at West Central High School.

--Lion’s Club Service Award Application (Deadline: 4/1/2020)

Must be in good standing with WCHS, must have volunteer activities in Henderson County, Illinois or somewhere in the US. and planning to attend a 2 year, 4 year or tech. School in the fall. *See Miss Nelson for application* 

--Cavin’s Scholarship (Deadline: 4/1/2020)

Applicant’s parents must be actively farming. Students must be attending a  4 year college in the fall. Students must be graduating from West Central High School.

--Riverview Sportsmen of Dallas City Scholarship (Postmark Deadline: 4/3/2020)

Any student who plans to further their education by attending a vocation, two year, or four year school of their choice is eligible. Will need a letter of recommendation, personal letter, and short essay.

Nauvoo Festival on Wheels-Tom Ciolek Memorial Scholarship (Deadline: 4/3/2020)

The Nauvoo Festival on Wheels Committee is accepting applications for a scholarship for a high school senior which has demonstrated scholastic

achievement and will pursue post-secondary education at an accredited educational institution. The Festival on Wheels Scholarship was established

in 2012 to encourage Tri-State area seniors to continue their education and pursue an automotive based career.

--WCATS Scholarship ($1,500) (Deadline: 4/2020) 

Senior from WCHS, attending college in fall. Preference given to applicants interested in careers related to education. --West Central Education Foundation Scholarship (Deadline: 4/15/2020)

It is the desire of the foundation board to annually award scholarships to deserving students who have completed high school in the West Central School District or its successors. The purpose of awarding scholarships is to assist in the continuation of the student education and prepare them for a successful role in life at an institution of higher learning. Preferential treatment will be given to those who have financial need who might not otherwise be able to continue their education.

--Roy H. and Joan Huber Gerling Trust Award (Deadline: 4/15/2020)

This scholarship was established in the name of Roy H. and Joan Huber Gerling of Carman, IL. Priority to students who come from a low income family.

--Dale Garner Memorial Agricultural Scholarship (4/15/2020)*New this year*

This scholarship was established in 2020 to honor Dale Eugene Garner, a lifetime farmer from the Keithsburg area. His commitment to the ag industry earned him the reputation of an honest, hardworking, famer who wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty or train and mentor the next generation of farmers. The gap that his knowledge and expertise leaves in the farming community is great, and Jenks Family Farms hopes that this scholarship will attempt to somewhat stand in the gap of his absence. The purpose of this scholarship is to aid a worthy individual in furthering their education in an agriculture or trade school field.

--Women’s Issues Network Scholarship (Deadline: 4/24/2020)

This year we will award two $750 scholarships. This scholarship is open to women meeting one of the eligibility criteria: 1. Residing within a 30-mile radius of Galesburg, Illinois (if currently attending college this would be the person’s permanent address not the school address) 2. A high-school senior attending a school within a 30-mile radius of Galesburg, Illinois. Student must complete the application, write an essay, and submit two letters of reference.

--Western Illinois Agricultural Education Foundation Scholarship (Postmark deadline: 4/20/2020)

Available to any senior that has participated in FFA and is continuing their education in any field of interest. Applications must be typed*

Available to seniors wanting to enter the healthcare field. Will need two letters of recommendation, transcript and application.

--A. Bigger Purpose Scholarship Application (Deadline: 5/1/2020) *new this year*

In Memory of Aubrey Rene-Louise Bigger

A. Bigger Purpose scholarship was founded in 2019 for any high school senior planning to attend college for a public service degree or certification. For example, any medical field career, law enforcement, firefighter, etc. Applicants must be a WCHS senior, have community volunteerism, show determination for classroom academic achievement, show an interest in public service degree or certificate.

--Alicia Pence Scholarship (Deadline: 5/31/2020)

If you are a student who is enthusiastic, loves to volunteer, and have educational and trade school goals- you should apply! Applicants must: be a resident of Henderson County, IL, volunteer and have an individual organization support your application, be a senior in high school or enrolled in a college or trade school, have at least a 2.0 GPA, be accepted to (or enrolled) in an accredited college/university or tech. School.

*Many Colleges and Universities have foundation scholarships that pertain directly to that school, check out College websites for these types of scholarships! You should be getting financial aid letters from the colleges you listed on your FAFSA by now or this month, check with your financial aid office at the college if you have questions.
