Animals on School Property

Recently, concerns have been raised with regard to animals on school property. This has caused us to reflect on Board Policy 6:100 which states, "Animals may be brought into school facilities for educational purposes according to procedures developed by the Superintendent assuring: (a) the animal is appropriately housed, humanely cared for, and properly handled, and (b) students will not be exposed to a dangerous animal or unhealthy environment." After some discussion, we feel this policy must be enforced in order to ensure a safe environment for not only our students, but also our guests and spectators.
As a result, animals, with the exception of service dogs, will NOT be allowed on school property without prior approval of the administration. This will include all outdoor events including football, baseball, softball, and track. Enforcement of this policy will begin immediately. We appreciate your understanding as we strive to provide the safest environment possible for everyone.
