Wednesday Remote Learning Day Information
Good evening West Central Families,
Tomorrow, Wednesday, August 26, is our first Wednesday Remote Learning Day for ALL students. Please remember we will be using the certification process in Skyward to take attendance on Remote Learning Days. Parents/Guardians will be required to login to Skyward to certify that their child(ren) is/are symptom free by 7:30 a.m. each morning. Parents/Guardians of those students who normally ride a bus will be required to complete the certification process through Skyward as well. For bus riders, this is different than your normal certification process; however, since we will not see your child(ren) in person, it is necessary to do it this way. If you need instructions on how to do this, please click on the following link: https://wc235.socs.net/vnews/display.v/ART/5f36b9f7bd7e2 and view the second video: Students Arriving to School Who Did Not Arrive on School Provided Transportation and Remote Learners. It is important that this be done every Wednesday for all students and for all remote and temporary remote learners on all other student attendance days. Also, below is some additional information for remote learners that has been shared previously.
Remote learning will be very different than it was last spring. Students will be expected to complete all assigned work with the highest quality possible. Below are some of the expectations for remote learners.
1) Students in Pre-K - 3rd grade will be using Seesaw as their learning platform. Students in 4th - 12th grade will be using Google Classroom. We have shared numerous videos to assist both students and parents/guardians in using these platforms. You can access these videos at the following link: https://wc235.socs.net/vnews/display.v/ART/5f2f2a45d967f.
2) Students are expected to login every school day and access their lessons and assignments. Please pay special attention to due dates.
3) Parents/Guardians will still be required login to Skyward to certify that their child is symptom free each school day by 7:30 a.m. each morning. We are using this system for three reasons: 1) This is how we will take student attendance each school day for remote learners. 2) Some of our remote learning students are also involved in athletics, so this streamlines that process. 3) Students who have chosen remote learning can opt back in to in-person instruction at the end of the quarter if they choose to do so, and this provides a way for parents to certify that their child(ren) have been symptom free for the last 10 days before returning to in-person instruction. If you need instructions on how to do this, please click on the following link: https://wc235.socs.net/vnews/display.v/ART/5f36b9f7bd7e2.
4) Grading will not be done as it was in the Spring of 2020. Teachers will be assessing student work and assigning grades using the traditional grading methods prior to the mandated school closure. Teachers will be providing feedback during in-person instruction and via Seesaw or Google Classroom. Grades will be recorded in Skyward and available for access to students and parents by logging into their Skyward account.
If you have any questions, please start by contacting your child(ren)'s teacher(s). You can find a Staff Directory by clicking on the following link: https://www.wc235.k12.il.us/vnews/display.v/StaffDirectory.
Thank you for your continued partnership, patience, and grace as we work to provide a quality and safe education.
In Partnership,
Paula Markey
